Plan B - The Red Baron

Not the rapper bloke but a bit more of detail on the places we will visit.

The most difficult to pin down is the Red Baron's crash site. Loads of googling produced this: 49° 55′ 57.38″ N 2° 32′ 24.42″ E!!.

Pop that into Google maps and see what you get.

I have also added a new stop at a village called Fay. Destroyed in 1916 and then they moved the village a few hundred yards afterwards and there are remains for a few minutes contemplation.

  1. This any help to ya?

The crash location is located north-west of Vaux sur Somme on top of the Morlancourt Ridge. North and paralell to the Somme River. Take the road north from Vaux sur Somme to the top of the Morlancourt Ridge. You will come to the Corbie- Bray Road that runs about east and west, turn left towards Corbie and drive to the Brick factory about 1 km or there abouts. The Brick Factory has a tall smoke stack. About 100 yards west of the Brick factory is the location of the craft site about 10 yards south of the road towards the Somme river. I have heard that it is now marked with signs.

P.S. Drive to the Catholic Church in Bertangle and look in the cemetery at the original grave site. Very easy to find With Michelin Maps.
